EFT Tips & Advice
Hints For Applying EFT
Tip #1: Tap without bothering to rub the sore spot. If it works, its quicker. If it doesnt, it means your energy is stagnant – so massage the sore spot and make the affirmation. Do the short sequence: tap up to and including the under breast spot.
Tip # 2: Instead of (or as well as) saying . . I deeply and completely accept myself in your set-up phrase, state what you choose to have instead. For example, even though I feel angry, I choose to let it go and I completely accept myself.
Tip # 3: You may need to tap on a variety of different aspects or manifestations of the problem. So dont give up if the problem has returned in a different circumstance – its just another aspect that you need to address. For example, you may be angry with your father about a variety of incidents. Apply EFT to each one in turn.
Tip # 4: Tap on anything that comes up as you work on yourself. Trust the little messages your unconscious gives you. For example, you may need to tap on Even though I fear Ill never get over this . . .; or Even though part of me doesnt want to change . . . or “Even though I dont think this EFT will work on me…
Tip # 5: Dont be satisfied with feeling a bit better. Keep tapping until all traces and aspects of the problem are gone. Once you start clearing, other aspects of the problem are likely to surface. Continue to tap on these for more permanent results. Being thorough is the key.
Tip # 6: After you’re very familiar with the routine you can tap in your mind; your body knows what to do. Or you can hold each point with two fingers using moderate, gentle pressure while deliberately inhaling and exhaling. (Touch and Breathe)
Tip # 7: If it isn’t working, persist. Your unconscious has good reasons for keeping the problem. For some longstanding habits you may need to tap twenty times a day for a period of weeks. Sometimes no amount of tapping will do the trick. There may be a positive intention that your unconscious is determined to preserve. If your progress is slow (or the relief is only temporary) you may benefit from the help of a trained EFT Therapist whose advanced knowledge of the techniques, can provide more in depth guidance.
Tip # 8: Ensure that your set-up wording, Even though I feel . . . rings true to you.
Tip # 9: Occasionally the tapping has no effect because your electrical system has gone awry – perhaps due to stress, you feel overwhelmed, or because some toxic element in the environment (such as computers) is interfering. The more sophisticated techniques to counter this are beyond the scope of this introduction; but the following may help. Have a drink of water, sit down comfortably, take a few deep breaths and relax for a few minutes.
ALL TAPPING YOU DO IS GOOD FOR YOU. Any tapping you do stimulates the meridians, relaxes you, calms you and makes you feel a little better, even if the problem has not yet shifted. Just try again with a different start up phrase, or think about what the truth of the problem might be.
A particularly helpful exercise is to ask your friends what they think you should say! Sometimes our own neurology blindsides us especially on issues we have been working on for many years. The one thing you’re probably not thinking of and which would make the “bulls eye” opening statement is the one thing which is blatantly obvious to everyone else.
Gary Craig’s motto is Try it on everything! It only takes a few minutes, and it could change your life!
